About Me
Biographical Sketch
In my role as the Director of the Office of Interprofessional Learning, at Cleveland Clinic, I am deeply committed to fostering an interprofessional collaborative culture within the health system. I accomplish this through a multifaceted approach: I coach interprofessional teams. I design and implement innovative programs. I teach master-level courses to diverse interprofessional audiences. I facilitate faculty development workshops and provide mentorship to diverse groups and individuals.
I also direct and teach in the Cleveland State University – Cleveland Clinic Master of Education in Health Professions Education degree program.
My scholarly activity includes presenting at regional and national conferences, contributing chapters to books and authoring articles in peer-reviewed journals. I have received awards and delivered invited presentations. Furthermore, I have had the privilege of serving as the National Chair for the GME Section of the AAMC Group on Educational Affairs and currently serve as Deputy Editor for the Teaching and Learning in Medicine international journal.
Teaching Philosophy
As an educator, I am committed to creating a learning environment that caters to the diverse needs, abilities, and contexts of my learners, while also addressing potential barriers. My approach aims to motivate and challenge learners to reach their individual potential. I believe learning is achieved through reflection, discussion, exploration, and application. Therefore, I situate learning in authentic settings, grounded in complex problems, enhanced by collaborative, meaningful experiences that lead to transformative learning.
I am passionate about my work and dedicate myself to the task fully; thus, I assume the same of my learners. I set high standards and expect learners to investigate deeply, think critically, and reflect profoundly. I encourage autonomy by holding learners accountable for achieving their learning goals; yet, I provide appropriate scaffolds and guidance to help them achieve desired competence.
As a mastery-oriented educator, I believe assessment dives learning. To this end, I provide formative feedback that is frequent, timely, detailed, and improvement-oriented. I view failure as a learning opportunity, I reward individual progress, and I prefer to evaluate personal growth over standardized outcomes.

A wellbeing program developed by Dr. Margaret O'Rourke at University College Cork (UCC), in Ireland. Originally the program was face-to-face only, now enhanced by technology.
